Nacido en Alosno, allí aprendió a cantar siendo un niño de ocho años, cuando se ganaba malamente la vida cuidando una piara de cerdos, oyendo cantar a los mayores. No salió de su pueblo hasta cumplidos los treinta años. Los primeros años de su carrera formó pareja con su hermano Pepe, prematuramente desaparecido. Fueron pioneros del cante por sevillanas al ser ellos los primeros en grabar discos en esta disciplina. De su producción de sevillanas, son famosas las denominadas bíblicas, que aluden a pasajes bíblicos, con moraleja final. Ejemplos:
Mató a un gigante, David con una piedra mató a un gigante, y tú me estás matando con tu semblante. Que tu semblante, matan a cuantos miran, que están delante.
Dalila infame, mientras Sansón dormía, los hilos de la fuerza, supo cortarle. Sirva de aviso, que a mayor confianza mayor peligro.

Cuando la hermosa Judith, mató a Holofernes, lo hizo con caricias, no con desdenes. Que las mujeres, dominan a los hombres, cuando ellas quieren.
A la muerte de Pepe, Paco continuó su trayectoria artística en solitario, especializándose principalmente en fandangos de Huelva. Hasta entonces los aires de su tierra se mantenían en los límites del folclore territorial, pero Toronjo les dio un gran impulso y se convirtió en principal divulgador, que gracias en primer término a él pasaron a tener una proyección mucho más amplia.
En todo lo que cantaba Toronjo ponía un acento personal muy característico que le daba originalidad. Aunque no inventó ningún cante, supo imprimir su personal acento en la forma de interpretar los cantes y siempre se mostró especialmente prolífico en la creación e improvisación de letras, siendo capaz de pasarse noches enteras cantando por fandangos sin repetir una sola de las coplas.
Ha participado en alguna película, donde se puede destacar su aparición en Sevillanas un homenaje a la danza y el cante del director Carlos Saura. De entre su amplia discografía podemos destacar Antes y Ahora, Alonso, la cuna, Diferente o Con Filosofía y Amor.
Puede decirse que es la personalidad más representativa del cante de Huelva, además de ser considerado por la gran mayoría de entendidos en cante flamenco como el que mejor los ha ejecutado en la historia. Fue enterrado el 3 de julio de 1998 en su pueblo natal tras una larga enfermedad.
El autor presenta un bronce muy bien construido y armonioso, en el que el rey del fandango apoyado en una silla y con la mano diestra levantada, para dar más impulso a su voz, llena de duendes flamencos su entorno. Si magnífica es la figura humana, en la silla dio cabal medida de su talento. En definitiva, estatuaria moderna en lo que tiene de sintética y estilizante, pero poseedora de una tradición indudable en lo que supone el cante eterno, a través de sus discos, del mítico alosnero-huelvano.

After Pepe's death, Paco continued his solo artistic career, specializing mainly in fandangos from Huelva. Until then, the airs of his land remained within the limits of territorial folklore, but Toronjo gave them a great boost and became the main disseminator, which, thanks in the first place to him, began to have a much broader projection.
In everything Toronjo sang he put a very characteristic personal accent that gave him originality. Although he did not invent any cante, he was able to imprint his personal accent on the way he interpreted the cantes and he was always especially prolific in the creation and improvisation of lyrics, being able to spend entire nights singing fandangos without repeating a single one of the coplas.
He has participated in a film, where we can highlight his appearance in Sevillanas, a tribute to the dance and singing of the director Carlos Saura. Among his extensive discography we can highlight Antes y Ahora, Alonso, la cradle, Diferente or Con Filosofía y Amor.
It can be said that he is the most representative personality of Huelva cante, as well as being considered by the vast majority of flamenco connoisseurs as the one who has performed it best in history. He was buried on July 3, 1998 in his hometown after a long illness.
