This church was built at the beginning of the sixteenth century (in 1505), reformed in the eighteenth century and completely rebuilt in the middle of this century. It is a single ship with a flat roof. On the side of the Epistle there is a groin vault decorated with plasterwork.

The only thing we know about the primitive church of Faraján is that in the war against the Moors, at the end of the sixteenth century, the captain of the royal troops Don Álvaro de Luna looted the church, disassembling the altarpieces of the main altar and transporting them on horseback. to his town of Huétor-Tájar in Granada.

At the end of the sixteenth (1581), seventeenth (1680) and eighteenth (1767) centuries, various earthquakes occurred in Malaga and in this area, which caused the collapse of one of the two towers of the church, carrying out the restructuring of the same, a work of great magnitude and that we thought was the definitive one. This is corroborated by the fact that the main door of the church is currently in a northeasterly direction, while on the southeasterly side you can clearly see the large semicircular arch made of Nasrid bricks (currently whitewashed with lime) that would undoubtedly be the original main entrance door.

In the year 1933, according to a commemorative plaque at the entrance to the Church, the couple formed by Don Antonio Federico de Sierra Ruiz, a native of Faraján and settled in Malaga, together with his wife Doña Aurelia Guiara Picasso (first cousin of the famous painter Pablo Ruiz Picasso), paid for the reconstruction works of said Church. Among what has been reconstructed is one of the tower of the Mudejar-style Church that bears the name of Federiquito Sierra in memory of this young man (son of the previous marriage) who died previously in the plague and tuberculosis outbreak of 1918. They also acquired and They donated a piece of land next to the Church for a cemetery that has been in use until 1974.
