La tour-clocher conserve d'ailleurs une base romane qui rappelle ses origines. Coiffée d'un dôme à la comtoise surmonté d'une lanterne ajourée, l'église Saint-Laurent dévoile également un chœur avec une abside à trois pans voûtée de style gothique flamboyant.
À l'intérieur, il est possible d'admirer un très intéressant mobilier du XVIIIe siècle réalisé par le sculpteur Jean Gauthier d'Ornans. On peut y découvrir entre autres, le tombeau de Pierre Perrenot.
Located in the commune of Ornans, in the Doubs, the Saint-Laurent church is a religious building of the XVIth century today classified as a Historic Monument. It is built on the remains of a former Romanesque church from the 12th century. The bell tower still has a Romanesque base which reminds its origins. Covered by a dome in the comtoise style surmounted by an openwork lantern, the Saint-Laurent church also reveals a choir with a three-sided apse vaulted in the flamboyant Gothic style.
Inside, it is possible to admire a very interesting 18th century furniture made by the sculptor Jean Gauthier d'Ornans. One can discover there, among others, the tomb of Pierre Perrenot.

La construction de l'église Saint-Laurent actuelle a commencé en 1546 et s'est achevée en 1553. Au même emplacement, au XIIe siècle, on sait qu'il y avait une église romane que les vicissitudes des XIIIe, XIVe et XVe siècles ont plusieurs fois ruinée. Au XVIe enfin, pour clore cette série de malheurs, le chapitre de Besançon fit construire l'église gothique que nous connaissons. Elle fut consacrée en 1572 et bénéficia de la générosité de la famille De Granvelle pour son embellissement. Les principes de la Contre-Réforme furent appliqués, notamment par la mise en place d'un superbe retable dans le chœur, création d'un artiste ornanais, Jean Gautier. À cette époque, le Jura fait partie de l'empire des Habsbourg. Le lutrin et la couronne impériale du retable viennent le rappeler. L'église Saint-Laurent a été classée monument historique en 1931.
Son aspect extérieur reflète les problèmes de sa construction. L'immense toit de lauze sert à cacher les arcs-boutants qui ne sont là que pour palier les erreurs du maître maçon. (Celui-ci fut remplacé au cours des travaux.) Notons enfin le superbe clocher aux deux parties bien distinctes : l'une romane avec des ouvertures en plein cintre, l'autre du XVIIe siècle. Le tout chapeauté par un élégant dôme surmonté d'un lanternon et d'une flèche.
Mise à part son immense toiture en lauze, conséquence des erreurs de construction, le clocher de l'église Saint-Laurent mérite attention. Haut de 57 mètres, les deux premiers étages (le deuxième étant celui qui accueille l'horloge) sont ceux de l'église romane du XIIe siècle. Ils sont percés de fenêtres étroites, uniques ou géminées, en plein cintre. La partie supérieure, avec ses larges fenêtres à balustres, date de 1735. Au-dessus, un dôme surmonté d'un lanternon et d'une flèche. Ce clocher est dit «bisontin».

Let us note finally the superb bell-tower with two quite distinct parts: one Romanesque with round-headed openings, the other of the XVIIth century. The whole is topped by an elegant dome surmounted by a lantern and an arrow.
Apart from its huge roof in lauze, consequence of construction errors, the bell tower of the Saint-Laurent church deserves attention. 57 meters high, the first two floors (the second one being the one that houses the clock) are those of the 12th century Romanesque church. They are pierced with narrow windows, unique or geminated, in full arch. The upper part, with its large baluster windows, dates from 1735. Above, a dome surmounted by a lantern and an arrow. This bell tower is called "bisontin".
