Este edificio fue una fundación del regidor Pedro González de Alderete, en el siglo xvi. La parte más antigua (de mediados del siglo xvi) corresponde a la cabecera y a la capilla de la familia Alderete, que está adosada a ella. Estas dos estancias están edificadas en piedra y sus muros están rematados por cornisas caladas y pináculos góticos flamigeros. Tiene una torre de ladrillo.

Se construyó entre los siglos xvi y xvii. En el año 1644 Gil de Reynaltos terminó la obra del templo. En 1712 se ejecutan las pinturas del coro por el pintor Juan López y durante el siglo xviii se realzaron obras de consolidación de la torre.

Tiene una sola nave con bóvedas de crucería estrellada y aristas con ornamentación de yeserías del siglo xvii. Tiene un baptisterio, un púlpito, la capilla de los Acebedo (además de la ya citada de los Alderete), coro bajo y coro alto. Se conservan expuestos varios retablos de interés. El retablo mayor es de 1658, con pinturas de Felipe Gil de Mena. Las piezas exentas son bastante valiosas, obras de Gregorio Fernández, Pedro de Mena, Francisco Salzillo y otros. Son también interesantes las piezas de orfebrería y las de liturgia.

This building was a foundation of the alderman Pedro González de Alderete, in the 16th century. The oldest part (from the mid-16th century) corresponds to the head and the chapel of the Alderete family, which is attached to it. These two rooms are built of stone and their walls are topped by openwork cornices and flamboyant Gothic pinnacles. It has a brick tower.

It was built between the 16th and 17th centuries. In the year 1644 Gil de Reynaltos finished the work on the temple. In 1712 the paintings of the choir were executed by the painter Juan López and during the 18th century the consolidation works of the tower were carried out.

It has a single nave with star-shaped ribbed and groined vaults with 17th-century plasterwork ornamentation. It has a baptistery, a pulpit, the Acebedo chapel (in addition to the Alderete chapel already mentioned), a low choir and a high choir. Several altarpieces of interest are preserved on display. The main altarpiece is from 1658, with paintings by Felipe Gil de Mena. The free-standing pieces are quite valuable, works by Gregorio Fernández, Pedro de Mena, Francisco Salzillo and others. The goldsmith and liturgical pieces are also interesting.
