This amber museum, Museo del Ámbar Dominicano, is located in a Victorian building on the corner of Duarte and Emilio Prud'Homme Streets in San Felipe de Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.

Amber is formed from resin exuded from tree bark or the heartwood. Resin protects trees by blocking gaps in the bark. Once resin covers a gash or break caused by chewing insects, it hardens and forms a seal. When this tree resin is fossilized, it becomes amber.

Dominican Republic has the most important amber deposits in the world, which are unique due to the volcanis activity. Some amber is blue, green or warm honey yellow.

One of the most important stones of this museum is a 40cm lizard conserved inside a piece of amber.
