De boerderij op het Westeinde 28 te Wijngaarden is een grote en markante boerderij, gedekt met riet. De boerderij staat ook duidelijk op een huisterp uit de Late Middeleeuwen. Ik heb hier een paar jaar geleden archeologisch onderzoek verricht en toen ook wat scherven uit de Late Middeleeuwen gevonden. De boerderij zelf dateert uit 1725. Waarom dit pand niet als rijksmonument is ingeschreven of zelfs als gemeentelijk monument, is mij een raadsel…

Uit het archeologische rapport dat ik heb geschreven

Volgens de gegevens van de Basisregistratie Adressen en Gebouwen (BAG) dateert de boerderij uit 1725. De eigenaar van het perceel, de heer C.J. de Knegt, heeft verklaard dat in de boerderij nog resten van een boerderij uit ca. 1400 aanwezig zijn. Tijdens renovatiewerkzaamheden zijn namelijk tegels met heiligenmotieven gevonden en deze tegels dateren waarschijnlijk van voor de Reformatie die aan het begin van de 16e eeuw plaatsvond. Tijdens deze werkzaamheden is ook een inpandige waterput gevonden. De boerderij is thans één van de oudste gebouwen van Wijngaarden en heeft ook gediend als herberg.

According to the data of the Key Register of Addresses and Buildings (BAG), the farm dates from 1725. The owner of the plot, Mr. C.J. de Knegt, has stated that remnants of a farm from about 1400 are still present in the farm. Tiles with saint motifs have been found during renovation work and these tiles probably date from before the Reformation, which took place at the beginning of the 16th century. An internal well was also found during this work. The farm is now one of the oldest buildings in Wijngaarden and has also served as an inn.
