The Dranesville Tavern is a historic tavern that serviced people from 1823 to the 1850s. It served those traveling on Georgetown Pike and Leesburg Pike. One could stop and get food service, stay the night or both. With the automobile, taverns like this slowly died out as one could travel further in a shorter time. In 1960s, the widening of Leesburg Pike/ Route 7, the building was moved 130 feet to ensure its preservation. In 1972, it was added to the National Historical Register of Historic Places. In 1978, it was opened to the public through Fairfax County Park Authority.
