La compañía fue fundada el año 1971 por iniciativa de un grupo de jóvenes extranjeros afincados en España (Mark Brownstein, Douglas Delfeld y los hermanos Anthony y Stephen A. Unger) y muy vinculados al mundo cinematográfico,? que añoraban la comida típica estadounidense. En su momento fue la primera cadena de restaurantes al estilo estadounidense de España, y una de las primeras de Europa.? El primer restaurante de la cadena se abrió ese mismo año en la calle de Magallanes, Un reportero de The New York Times comentó en su crítica del establecimiento que allí podían comerse «probablemente los mejores aros de cebolla del mundo».
Desde ese primer establecimiento la cadena fue creciendo, y en 1994 tenía ya veintidós restaurantes en España y Portugal. Llegó a dar el salto a los Estados Unidos, concretamente a Florida: abrió allí en 1994 un primer restaurante en Tampa,? y llegó a tener siete (dos en Tampa, tres en Orlando y uno en Lakeland, más el proyecto de un octavo en Kissimmee).? Sin embargo, la compañía cambió repentinamente de estrategia y cerró todas sus instalaciones en Florida a lo largo de 1996,? cuando algunas de ellas llevaban abiertas menos de un año.
En 2012 la cadena reúne 27 restaurantes en Madrid,? y más de 186 repartidos por todo el territorio español. La cadena tiene una gran proporción de establecimientos franquiciados,? que son gestionados por el Grupo Zena y Grupo Alsea.
The company was founded in 1971 at the initiative of a group of young foreigners living in Spain (Mark Brownstein, Douglas Delfeld and the brothers Anthony and Stephen A. Unger) and closely linked to the world of cinema, who longed for typical American food. At the time, it was the first American-style restaurant chain in Spain, and one of the first in Europe. The chain's first restaurant opened that same year on Calle de Magallanes, a reporter for The New York Times commented in his criticism of the establishment that they could eat "probably the best onion rings in the world" there.
From that first establishment, the chain grew, and in 1994 it already had twenty-two restaurants in Spain and Portugal. He made the leap to the United States, specifically to Florida: he opened his first restaurant in Tampa there in 1994, and came to have seven (two in Tampa, three in Orlando and one in Lakeland, plus the project for an eighth in Kissimmee). However, the company suddenly changed strategy and closed all its Florida facilities throughout 1996, when some of them had been open less than a year.
In 2012 the chain had 27 restaurants in Madrid, and more than 186 throughout the Spanish territory. The chain has a large proportion of franchised establishments, which are managed by the Zena Group and the Alsea Group.
