Pierre-Auguste Renoir painted A Box of the Theatre (At the Concert) in 1880 as part of a series several paintings depicting spectators at theaters or concerts. This painting was acquired by Sterling and Francine Clark on May 28, 1928. The couple established the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute in 1955 to display their private art collection. Today it is one of the premier art museums in the world with a large collection of French Impressionism Paintings.
Palau is a former Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands administered by the United States. It became an independent country on October 1, 1994. The stamp is part of a series of six stamps based on the History of Impressionism Art issued in 2013.
