Richmans engine house was built between 1867 and 1869 using stone from Moonta beach and featured a concealed roof hidden by a parapet. The building housed a 32inch cornish beam engine that powered the complex of machinery in the surrounding area. Taylors Shaft was the deepest in the Moonta area being 800m in depth. It was worked from 1862 until operations closed in 1923.
The ruins of the shaft and building works survive today.
