"The Malaga Port Authority has located a representative element of the work that is being carried out within the framework of the project 'Rehabilitation and improvement of the outer dock and outer shelter of San Andrés of the port of Malaga', referring to the outer dock and protection of the nautical-sports area of San Andrés, whose competition won the 2011 National Award for Innovative Public Procurement, awarded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation. The company that won the tender for the work, SATO Grupo OHL, proposed the use of a new Spanish technology, the cubipod, for the construction of the breakwater, which it has developed in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Valencia, and which It has some very particular technical characteristics, such as a better relationship between the structural capacity and the weight of the element, generation of greater friction with the lower layer, or simplicity in its manufacture, handling, placement and storage. This new technology, never used to date in port works, has enormous potential for future use in port works around the world, and has received various awards, such as the Gold Medal with honorable mention at the 39th edition of the Salon International Convention of Inventions of Geneva (April 2011) or the prize for the best Spanish invention from the Spanish patent agency Garcia-Cabrerizo (2011)."

What is a cubipod? A cubipod is a cubic block of concrete with individual pyramidal trunks coming out of its faces. These logs prevent the blocks from mating face to face, thus favoring their random placement. In addition, they increase friction with the bottom layer. These cubepods, of six and fifteen tons, also have great hydraulic stability. The construction material, however, remains the same: concrete.
