The church of Monells has been mentioned in documents since the 11th century, in the Girona Canonical Endowment Act of 1019, although the current building is the result of various construction stages: the nave and apse date from the 14th century; It is known that the head was already made in the year 1309, and that the nave is later, possibly a few years later.

It is a large building, with a nave with side chapels, a polygonal head and a gabled roof. Its façade is divided vertically into three bodies, in the center of which is the door, of great architectural interest, where the access door is located, of classical inspiration; It presents an opening with an arch, entablature and a circular pediment, which appears cut and whose lateral sides come forward as if they were opening to show the door and the niche with the image. In the center of the façade there is an oculus with moldings, where the date 1785 appears inscribed in relief. A head of an angel separates this set from the upper oval oculus that has relief decoration. The crowning is sinuous, with a molded cornice and crowning balls. The bell tower rises in the left body of the facade; It is large, with a square base and an octagonal body, with semicircular arch openings and the inscription of 1788 in the corner.
