These trees were actually planted between 1930 and 1932, as the little monument attests. The Bethlehem Parks Department planted the trees, which were registered with the National Tree Association.

Although a local project, the Rose Garden was in fact part of the larger City Beautiful movement that was sweeping early twentieth century urban America when parks like Philadelphia’s Longwood Gardens and the Ben Franklin Parkway were being developed.

The trees are Sycamores and are lining Union Blvd along the northern edge of the Bethlehem Rose Garden.

The George Washington bicentennial trees were a nationwide project in the 1930-32 period to celebrate his birth.
Location of the tree: Northern (Union Blvd) edge of the Bethlehem Rose Garden

Type of tree: Sycamore
