"Theehuis Rhijnauwen is een authenthiek theehuis met prachtig terras. Het pannenkoekenrestaurant ligt op een fantastische plek aan de Kromme Rijn en midden in de bossen van het landgoed Rhijnauwen. Er is genoeg ruimte en tal van mogelijkheden rond het theehuis om er een leuk dagje uit van te maken. Eerst even wandelen, en daarna lekker uitpuffen met een welverdiend drankje aan het water op het terras. In combinatie met het restaurant zijn verschillende activiteiten mogelijk: wandelen, fietsen, kanovaren, een sloep huren, of een bezoek aan Fort Rhijnauwen!
Rhijnauwen is ideaal om met kinderen naar toe te gaan. In het restaurant zijn kleurplaten, kinderstoelen, een leuke kinderhoek en natuurlijk de lekkerste kinderpannenkoeken. Buiten een fantastische speeltuin waar de kinderen geen genoeg van krijgen, groot genoeg om ze een lange tijd te vermaken. Verder hebben we 2 ezels staan Carlos en Isabella, en een aantal geitjes die je van dichtbij kan bekijken.
Markant gebouw met rijke geschiedenis
Het bestaan van het theehuis en zijn omgeving zijn een direct gevolg van het bestaan van de hollandse waterline. De landgoederen Rhijnauwen/Amelisweerd dankt zijn behoud tot vandaag de dag aan de militaire functie van dit gebied. De gemeente heeft begin vorige eeuw het landgoed gekocht van de laatste particuliere eigenaren van de ridderhofsteden en bijbehorende landgoederen, Bosch van Drakestein en Strick van Linschoten. Theehuizen en -tuinen waren in die tijd heel hip. Na de aanschaf van de landgoederen heeft de gemeente direct het Theehuis laten bouwen als uitspanning voor de burgerij van Utrecht en omgeving. Het theehuis is gebouwd in de stijl van de Amsterdamse school, gelijk met het paviljoen in het Wilhelminapark in Utrecht door archirect K. van der Gaast.
Het theehuis werd in 1997 uitgebreid met een ontwerp van architect Bertus Mulder, een leerling van Gerrit Rietveld. Hij koos voor verbreken van de originele bouwstijl omdat ‘ het anders lijkt of er niets is gebeurt en alsof de tijd heeft stilgestaan’. De uitbreiding, waaronder een paviljoen in Japanse stijl, loopt via de veranda op een natuurlijke wijze over in de toen opnieuw aangelegde Japanse tuin. De uitbreiding mocht dus wel anders worden, maar moest de herkenbare sfeer behouden"

There is plenty of space and plenty of options around the tea house to enjoy a nice day out First take a walk, and then relax with a well-earned drink by the water on the terrace.Various activities are possible in combination with the restaurant: walking, cycling, canoeing, renting a sloop, or a visit to Fort Rhijnauwen!
Rhijnauwen is ideal to go with children. In the restaurant there are coloring pictures, high chairs, a nice children's corner and of course the tastiest children's pancakes. Outside a fantastic playground that the kids can't get enough of, big enough to keep them entertained for a long time. We also have 2 donkeys Carlos and Isabella, and a number of goats that you can see up close.
Striking building with a rich history
The existence of the tea house and its surroundings are a direct result of the existence of the Dutch waterline. The Rhijnauwen/Amelisweerd estates owe their preservation to this day to the military function of this area. At the beginning of the last century, the municipality bought the estate from the last private owners of the knights' homesteads and associated estates, Bosch van Drakestein and Strick van Linschoten. Tea houses and gardens were very hip at the time. After purchasing the estates, the municipality immediately had the Tea House built as a place for the citizens of Utrecht and the surrounding area. The tea house was built in the style of the Amsterdam School, at the same time as the pavilion in the Wilhelmina Park in Utrecht by architect K. van der Gaast.
The tea house was expanded in 1997 with a design by architect Bertus Mulder, a student of Gerrit Rietveld. He chose to break the original architectural style because 'it looks different as if nothing has happened and as if time has stood still'. The extension, including a Japanese-style pavilion, flows naturally through the veranda into the Japanese garden, which was then redesigned. The expansion could therefore be different, but had to retain the recognizable atmosphere."
