The G series flush brackets first appeared at the start of the Second Geodetic Levelling of Scotland in 1936.

In this historic building the newly formed council established its burgh chambers on the south side of the High Street at No. 56 and met there for the first time on 24 August 1864. A new Town Hall was built across High Street in 1871.
