A lovelock wall is at the Denton attraction The Chairy Garden. There are over 300 chairs in this vacant lot that is on a floodplain. The two neighbors purchased the lot for their children to play and it evolved into the attraction it is today.

History from the flyer on site:

The Chairy Orchard was started the summer of 2015 and is the brainchild of Anne Pearson and Judy Smith. We call ourselves the "Chairy Fairies." We are long-time friends and live in the homes on either side of the empty lot we've owned for over 40 years. Since the lot is located in the floodway, no structure can be built on it.

When our six children were young the area was home to soccer games, skateboard ramps and tree forts. The Big Tree, an 80-year old cedar elm is the central umbrella for the orchard.

Twenty years ago, Judy started attaching chairs to the trees in the right rear of the property, calling it "The Chairy Tree." In 2015, Anne thought of expanding the "Chairy/Cherry" pun and create an orchard full of "Chairies." We are scavengers at heart and collected 100 chairs to start. Since then, from garage sales, thrift shops, and curbs: the collection has grown to over 300.

An artist friend, Mark Holderbaum, built the Chairy Arch, Judy's son Terry built the Giant Chair and her son Pat built the Chairy Totter.

Recently, we have added two free libraries filled with children's books.

Although the Chairy Orchard is free, we appreciate donations for maintenance located in the Red Fridge by the fence. There are souvenirs inside to purchase. When we have extra money, we donate to Our Daily Bread who feed the homeless every day.

Visitors are encouraged to move the chairs any way they want, take any pictures they want, and take some free books!

We do take donations of chairs, but they must be sitable. We don't like office chairs (they are ugly!) or any fabric-covered chairs (they are against city code.)

The Orchard has had some great publicity: we've been on Good Morning Texas (Channel 8) twice and featured on the TV show The Texas Bucket List.

Please share your pictures on the official "Chairy Orchard Facebook" page.

Our mission is simple: to make people smile.
