This pillar lies on the summit of Glas Tulaichean, a 3,449 feet, 1,051 metre mountain in the north-eastern part of the Perthshire highlands. The summit is a plateau area at the intersection of various ridges with a pronounced eastern corrie of grass and a few crags that lies a few yards to the east of the pillar. The pillar despite its high elevation is in good condition, and views are extensive.

STEEPNESS: Moderate steepness up the south ridge.

TERRAIN: One of the few Munros in Scotland with a track all the way to the summit.

ACCESSIBILITY: Six miles from the Spittal of Glenshee to the south-east which is the usual route along the roads and track. There is a parking area at the beginning of the road to the Dalmunzie Hotel. There is a charge for parking at the hotel which cuts a mile off the journey. A longer route heads up Gleann Taitneach from the Spittal, east of the mountain, before heading up the north-east ridge.

NAVIGATION: The track up the south ridge makes this one of the easier mountains in mist. From Dalmunzie the track, or line of an old railway to the north, heads north-west through Glen Lochsie to the remains of the old lodge. From here continue on the track north-westwards then north up the pronounced south ridge to the high point. The track then heads east for a short distance straight to the summit.

DANGER: none if keeping to the track.
