Eglise St Georges de Descartes
Avant la révolution, le village de la Haye était constitué de deux
paroisses, Saint Georges et Notre Dame.
L'Église Saint-Georges est la plus ancienne église de Descartes. Elle
a été bâtie au 12ème siècle et appartenait à l'abbaye de Preuilly. Cet édifice
est de style roman avec une certaine influence du gothique naissant. Elle a
connu de nombreuses transformations aux 15ème, 18ème et 19ème siècles.
C'est dans cette église que René Descartes fut baptisé le 3 avril
1596.

The
Saint-Georges Church is the oldest church of Descartes. It was built in the
12th century and belonged to the abbey of Preuilly. This building is in the
Romanesque style with a certain influence of the nascent Gothic. It underwent
many transformations in the 15th, 18th and 19th centuries.
It was in
this church that René Descartes was baptized on April 3, 1596.
