Este monumento representa el agradecimiento del pueblo de Jijona al Doctor Ayela por su vocación y entrega hacia la gente, nombrándole al mismo tiempo hijo predilecto de Jijona en 1932.
"Trabajador incansable, atendió a pacientes por toda la provincia, aun a expensas de tener que comer un bocadillo durante los desplazamientos para evitar la espera del enfermo en grave estado de salud. Todos estos desvelos aumentaron aún más si cabe su prestigio. Era tal su entrega que asistía gratuitamente a todos los jijonencos que acuden sin cesar a su finca de veraneo en busca de remedio para sus males.
Fue tal el respeto y admiración que los jijonencos sintieron por su ilustre paisano que no dudaron en homenajearle en varias ocasiones. En julio de 1929, siendo Alcalde Eloy Coloma, la Corporación acordó dar su nombre a la entonces calle del Loreto. El 31 de diciembre de 1930, tres meses y medio antes de la caída de la Monarquía, el Alcalde Luis Rovira inició los trámites para realizar un gran homenaje a Ayela que culminaría el 11 de septiembre de 1932, ya en la etapa republicana, con el descubrimiento de su estatua, realizada por el alicantino Vicente Bañuls Aracil y que desde ese momento preside la Plaça."

This monument represents the gratitude of the people of Jijona to the doctor Ayela for his vocation and dedication to the people, naming him at the same time Jijona's favorite son in 1932.
"A tireless worker, he cared for patients throughout the province, even at the expense of having to eat a sandwich while traveling to avoid waiting for the patient in serious health. All these sleeplessness increased his prestige even more, if possible. Such was his delivery that attended free of charge to all the jijonencos who go incessantly to his summer estate in search of a remedy for their ills.
Such was the respect and admiration that the people of Jijon felt for their illustrious countryman that they did not hesitate to honor him on several occasions. In July 1929, when Eloy Coloma was Mayor, the Corporation agreed to give his name to the then Calle del Loreto. On December 31, 1930, three and a half months before the fall of the Monarchy, Mayor Luis Rovira began the procedures to carry out a great tribute to Ayela that would culminate on September 11, 1932, already in the Republican stage, with the discovery of his statue, made by Vicente Bañuls Aracil from Alicante and who has presided over the Plaça ever since."
