The Ancient Forester II is made from different diameter limbs from a variety of trees. The art comes from the arrangement of these pieces. He was made by David Kemp in 1995, who said. "The Ancient Forester, a figure of great antiquity, lurks deep in the Gothic forests and wilderness between our ears. He represents an idealised image of man the hunter, the mystic, the guardian. He lives in responsible husbandry with nature."

There are many more sculptures throughout Grizedale forest. Some are part of a Geocache. Not all are wooden. This one is over 5 metres high with real metal axe head.
The car park is pay and display, and very busy at weekends and holidays. Twice a year there is motor car rally on the forest roads when the forest is closed. Grizedale Stages (visit link)
