The ruins of the castle are located on a steep slope above the left bank of the Jizera River. The ruin is freely accessible all year round. Due to the distant view of the surrounding countryside, it was and is a frequent destination of tourists.
A castle used to stand on the site of the ruins, later rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau. In 1693 the chateau was damaged by fire. Although its effects were largely repaired, the chateau was damaged again not long afterwards, in 1720. This damage was not repaired, the chateau ceased to be inhabited and gradually fell into disrepair. Only a few walls and the remains of the tower and ramparts have survived to this day.
