A drawbridge is a movable bridge in which the bridge deck opens around a horizontal axis. This is also called tilting.
The Wilhelmina van Pruisenbrug is an electromechanically driven drawbridge over the Hollandse IJssel near Hekendorp. This bridge between Hekendorp and Haastrecht connects the provinces of South Holland and Utrecht. A radar detection system has been installed on this unmanned bridge.
The bridge is named after the arrest of Wilhelmina of Prussia on June 28, 1787 along the Vlist. She was held in Hekendorp near the Goejanverwellesluis.
In addition to recreational use, the bridge is also widely used by schoolchildren, churchgoers and travelers by public transport (to the bus stop on the N228).
