On July 13, 2024, former President Donald Trump was speaking at a political rally at the Butler Farm Show Complex. A man climbed on a nearby roof and fired shots.

Thomas Matthew Crooks was from Bethel Park. He fired eight rounds. One man in the audience was killed, Corey Comperatore, an engineer and volunteer firefighter. Several other audience members were injured, two more seriously.
The former President and convicted felon, Donald Trump, with a fortunate turn of his head, was grazed by a bullet on his right ear. A bandage could be seen on the ear for several days following.
There are current investigations regarding the practices of the Secret Service charged with Mr Trump's safety.
