The Trentham Estate covers an area of 725 acres, that includes an outdoor shopping village, award-winning gardens, lakeside walks and ancient woodland.
Trentham Gardens Lake was designed by Capability Brown. It is a mile long with small islands, and a circular lakeside walk that has views of the River Trent. Ancient wildflower meadows, woodlands and nature trails surround the lake.

"Wildlife is at the heart of the Trentham experience. They have a long-term and unwavering commitment to nature conservation and have created an environment where flora and fauna flourishes. Their rewilding projects have helped provide a home for an amazing variety of British wildlife.
You may even spot signs of otters, badgers, voles, shrews. Or be lucky enough to see bats, foxes, stoats, weasels and hedgehogs as you walk around too!" SOURCE: (visit link)

The bat boxes are located in the gardens and can be seen when walking on the path around the lake.
There are two wooden boxes mounted on the trunk of a mature pine tree next to the lake and close to the stumpery and woodland.

Pipistrelle bats can be seen in the gardens, they are small with brown fur and black wings and face, and a wingspan is around 20cm. Trees and woodland are an important habitat for them and their hunting often takes place close to water, where the bat’s insect prey is abundant. (visit link)

"30 Days Wild 2024 – Blog #1 (Duncan Coleman – Wildlife Ranger)
3 June 2024
Bats – Summer is a more active time of year, with higher temperatures and more invertebrates around. We have a number of species resident on the estate. Including Daubenton’s Bat (Myotis daubentonii), also known as the water bat, this species can be observed acrobatically feeding over the lake on summer evenings, a great wildlife spectacle often seen on our beaver safaris. It can capture prey items from the surface of the water. We have some bat walks planned for this autumn, keep an eye on the website for more details!"
