"A two-metre-high, half-tonne image of the Virgin of Carmen pays homage to the sailors of Monte Boi. Manuel Quintas Vergara, "O Ferreiro" from Sabarís, has carved it to honour, as always, his neighbours, "those who truly deserve it", as he himself says. He had already dedicated one of his pieces to the people of the sea, the one located next to the port, but this one also adds the protection of his patron saint facing the immensity of the Atlantic and contributes to the decoration of the curious sanctuary that, next to the walk that surrounds the fortress, is maintained by another Baiona native for whom he feels special affection, Isaac Carneiro Refojos. After months of work, the most difficult thing has been to place the sculpture on its small altar, crowned with a stone boat. The difficult access to the area has required the use of a small tractor, ropes and a lot of strength. "How do you think the cathedrals were made?" jokes the author."
