Sølsnes (Veøy) kirkested / Veøy kirke 2 (85828-2)
The red church can be seen in the roadside when you take the ferry from Sølsnes, and it invites you to stop and take a closer look.
You immediately think that the church is older, but it turns out that it was built in the same style as stave churches. A very charming church with the many dragon heads.
However, the cemetery hides a tragic incident in Norway's history, namely a memorial to four Jewish residents. They were actually children who had been sent to Norway to be safe from the Nazis, but ended up being reported and sent to concentration camps.
Veyø church is a wooden church built in 1907. Architect is Karl Norum. There has previously been another church on the site.
The church is a long-nave church built in Dragon style and is inspired by Norwegian stave churches.
It is painted red with white windows and details, among several white painted dragon heads. The roof is black slate. The church has its tower to the west.
It is a parish church under the Norwegian Church, which is an Evangelical Lutheran church.
