"The Church of the convent of San Francisco on the outside has a main façade with a door and a semicircular arch, framed by the Franciscan cord in the shape of a broken alfíz. It has the image of San Francisco in the center, and on one side the coat of arms of the city and on the other the coat of arms of Carlos V, above a relief depicting the father of God holding the ball of the world in his right hand. It consists of a window that gives light to the choir with a triangular pediment and in the tympanum the coat of arms with the five wounds of San Francisco.

The bell tower has three bays with a belfry, and above the roof is a spiral staircase. On one of its exterior walls, there is an open chapel with an image of Our Lady of Guidance.

The Church of San Francisco is an impressive Renaissance church with a single nave in the shape of a Latin cross. It has a large 18th-century dome above the transept, topped with a lantern. Inside, there are connecting chapels with large Gothic-style cross vaults. The central vault also features the royal arms and the city coat of arms.

The chapels contain the tombs of noble families, as in other chapels in the city of Trujillo. This right, if paid, was perpetual.

The gilded, highly Baroque altarpiece from the mid-18th century has Corinthian columns and coffered ceilings, with Saint Francis in the center. The altar to one side features a bound Christ from the 18th century.

The Pizarro family is buried in this convent: Hernando and his wife, as well as his niece, in a crypt that, during renovations, was unsuccessfully recovered and found hidden behind walls. There was a coat of arms inside, which is currently placed on the back door of the Palace of the Conquest, on Hernando Pizarro Street.
