Like other homes in Victoria built during the mid-19th century by working-class American immigrants from the deep South, this is a small, simple 1½-story wood-frame structure. The house has a central passageway flanked by two rooms (in some homes the central passageway was flanked by four rooms). Greek Revival was the preferred building style at the time.
Although most Greek Revivals in the South were characterized by an attached temple-like porch roof (entablature) supported by Greek columns, those homes built in Victoria typically featured Greek columns supporting inset porches. The doors of Greek Revival homes built in Victoria were also simpler than those in other parts of the South – most lack the narrow vertical panes of glass to either side of the door, as well as the narrow horizontal transom above the door.
