This was the tallest building in Flint from 1930 to 1968 when it was surpassed in height by the adjacent Genesee Towers office building.

After the Union Industrial Bank went under in 1944, the Mott Foundation took control of the building, which bears its name to this day.

The Mott Building was named for auto magnate Charles Stewart Mott.
