As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon
called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for
they were fishermen. ~ Matthew 4:18
St Peters was a small farming community with the first settlers in the
area being French in the late 18th century. In the 1830s - 1850s German
Catholics joined the mostly French population. The settlement took its name from
the first log church established in 1815, called St. Peters on Dardenne Creek.
St. Peters is a fast growing city, with population under 500 in 1970 to its
current population of over 55,0000.
