Pere Marquette State Park at 8,000 acres is known for its great fall colors along its bluffs above the Illinois River. Also it is a popular eagle watching location during the winter months. The park has many overlooks affording great views of the Illinois River and its backwaters. The park has several miles of hiking and equestrian trails, a medium sized campground and great CCC era lodge and cabins.

Background: The park is located near where Pere Jacques Marquette (Jesuit Priest) and Louis Joliet stopped on their return trip from exploring and mapping the Mississippi River in 1673. Here they entered the Illinois River to return to the Great Lakes. The park is known now for its scenic beauty.
