On top of a building at Monument Self Storage in Concord Ca is a group of airplanes. I've seen them many times, but only recently found out that they are - Weathervanes!
"Beautiful Doll", the large plane, is an experimental aircraft with a VW engine that logged at least 15 hours of flying time before reaching this resting place. It is on a full gimble mount and swivels into the wind at any angle.
Two smaller "squadron" vanes are mounted just North of the main plane. The owner of the facility told me that the City of Concord tried to get him to take the plane down, until he informed them that it was a weathervane and thus did not violate building or display codes.
