According to Papa John's Story, as a high school student, John Schmatter, founder of Papa John's Pizza, his first job was at a pizzeria. In 1978, he graduated from washing dishes to making pizzas. Right from the start he fell in love with making pizza. He soon realized that there was something missing from national pizza chains: a superior-quality traditional pizza delivered to the customer's door. His dream was to one day open a pizza restaurant that would fill that void. And in 1984, that dream came true. To this day, making quality pizza using better ingredients is the foundation of Papa John's.
