The Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church was built in 1861 on land deeded to the congregation by the Pilot Knob Mining Company. During the Civil War the church was used as a Union hospital during the Battle of Pilot Knob in September, 1864. From telegraphs left behind it also appears that the church may have been used as a temporary Union headquarters.
