On a former munitions plant, this memorial recognizes those killed in explosions while constructing the bombs for the servicemen of World War 2.

During WW2, two separate explosions occurred at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant killing 50 workers. One occurred on June 5, 1942 killing 48 and on March 24, 1945 killing two more workers.
Aptly located across the entrance of the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery
Waymark WM1T9F, this memorial serves to remind visitors that sacrifices during World War 2 were made at home, too.
So on one side of the road you have those who fought for our country. On the other, a memorial for those who gave their lives making the materials it took to win the war.
