This magnificent courthouse in Wayne is the last example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture remaining in Nebraska. The building, made of Omaha pressed red brick and Lake Superior red stone was constructed in five months in 1899 at a cost of $32,000.

The dominant feature of the courthouse is a square 80 foot tower which gives the building a castle-like appearance.
