"The war memorial in Meppel is a bronze sculpture of a standing male figure holding a snake with his left hand. On the man's right hand is a child figure. The statue is placed on a tuff base, on which a heraldic coat of arms is affixed. Behind the statue is a semi-circular tuff wall.

The text on the pedestal reads:

'THEY FOUGHT AGAINST EVIL
TO SAVE OUR FUTURE
1940 1945'.

On the wall are the names of all inhabitants of Meppel who died during the Second World War.

Symbolism
Victory over the snake (evil) gives young life (the future) a chance."
