The memorial is in honor of SGT James "Dusty" Carroll. He was assigned to the 230 Eng. BN of the Tennessee Army National Guard. The battalion was a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
On July 31, 2005, SPC Carroll fell to an IED (a road side bomb). His funeral was conducted a few days later with full military honors.
