From Missouri - A Guide to the "Show Me" State -
Tour 1 - Arrow Rock section:
The one-room ARROW ROCK JAIL, said to have been built in 1871, has
formidable limestone walls and a heavy iron door of open grillework. Legend says
the only prisoner kept in it 'hollered and raised such a racket they just had to
let him out."
The jail has only one opening the door and has no facilities eating, lighting
or plumbing. The jail has a small opening at the rear to accommodate a stove
pipe for the wood burning stove. The jail was mainly used to sober-up drunks.
There are no records of when the jail was last used but it thought to be
sometime in the 1930's.
