From Fort Harker in Kanopolis go to the 1st mile road west of town that goes south and go about 1.5 miles south to the Fort Ellsworth sign. From the road walk .26 mile west along the fence. The BOD marker is about 8 ft. north of where 2 fences intersect. The stone is in good shape. Fort Elsworth lies to the south of the marker.
This is the first of 138 markers set out by Howard Raynesford in the early 1960's to mark the route of the Butterfield Overland Despatch Road from Fort Harker to the Kansas / Colorado line.
