Known as Two Sisters Creek when Florida was a colony of Spain, the name derives from two similar hardwood hammocks that were situated on either side of the creek. The City purchased most of the land for the park in 1974. The name of the creek was changed many years ago to Sisters Creek. Sisters Creek is now part of the Inland Waterway.
