Dec 18 1909 - the Oriental Limited passenger train hit a broken rail and derailed, sending 3 Pullman sleeper cars down into what is now Spring Rock Park. Thirty-one passengers were injured but no one killed. The train was 7 hours late and so running at great speed.
Jul 20 1912 - a mail train going about 60 mph hit the stopped Overland Limited passenger train, killing 13 and injuring a score more. The passenger train was stopped in obedience to signals - the mail train did not see the signals due to the fog. Many local Western Springs residents came out to help the injured.
Sep 20 1915 - a freight train running eastbound to Chicago buckled and threw a car into the path of the Missouri Limited passenger train heading west, smashing the engine and derailing the train. Approximately 20 were injured.
No problems since then!
