The term 'combination' is derived from the fact that this station served double duty - as a freight house and as a passenger station. The Station building was constructed in 1887 at 9th and Washington by the Willamette Valley and Coast Railroad. It was deemed to be lacking in space and insufficiently attractive for the passenger trade and in 1907 construction was begun on a new station. The Corvallis Depot was then relocated about 2 blocks east, prior to the construction of the 1907 building, where it resides today.
The building has been restored to better than original condition and has been converted to apartments and meeting rooms. Several railroad passenger cars are stored on the siding adjacent to the station platform.
