The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, known as "the Wall", is located alongside the Lincoln Memorial and is by far one of the most visited war memorials in Washington.
The Vietnam Memorial wall was Designed by Yale student Maya Ying Linis, is made of black granite and was dedicated on Veterans Day, 1982. On the wall are the names of 58,200 men and women who died or are still missing. Due to the walls unusual design, compared to the classical style of the rest of Washington's memorials, a second sculpture of three men with a flag was added to the site. The Vietnam Women's Memorial was dedicated over Veterans Day weekend of November 10-12,1993, to honor the very real role women played in Vietnam. The Wall, Three Servicemen statue, and the Vietnam Women's Memorial, are honoring those who died in Vietnam and are also powerful reminder of the human costs of war.For More Info:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_Veterans_Memorial_Wall
