Col. William B. Hazen's brigade defended Round Forest. The monuments inscription reads:
On the south side:
HAZEN'S BRIGADE, TO THE MEMORY OF ITS SOLDIERS WHO FELL AT STONE RIVER, DEC. 31ST 1862. "THEIR FACES TOWARD HEAVEN, THEIR FEET TO THE FOE." The monument was erected in 1864 and inscribed in 1864.
On the west side:
THE BLOOD OF ONE THIRD OF ITS SOLDIERS TWICE SPILLED IN TENNESSEE CRIMSONS THE BATTLE FLAG OF THE BRIGADE AND INSPIRES TO GREATER DEEDS.
