This is a British nature reserve which is a local concern run by the village Parish Council. A new development passing through ancient woodland the new pathways offer an inviting route to explore.

The Castle Close Committee runs the site in conjunction with the council whilst it is maintained by volunteers. Walkers, pushchairs and wheelchair users are are welcome.

The actual site is an ancient monument believed to be a medieval moated earthwork. It is not a castle but more likely to be a status symbol of a wealthy family living in the area at the time. Now it is a wildlife reserve to be enjoyed by all.

Volunteers are always welcome to help maintain the site and there are deer living here, as seen when we visited.
