In the late 1970's through the late 1980's, as the Indian Immigrant population in the Greater Jacksonville area grew, there was an increasing need for a community place to hold religious and cultural functions. This spawned a desire to have a place to congregate for Fellowship and Worship.

Towards this end, first organization meeting was held on 2nd September, 1989 and the First General Body Meeting was held on 16th September, 1989. Thus Hindu Society of NE Florida was formed. The steering com­mittee of the society met frequently and worked hard to get the new organization off the ground.

On March 25, 2007 they welcomed their deities to New Greenland Rd Temple - Home of 'Hindu Society of North East Florida'
