Owner John Stastny first became enchanted with the idea of farming in Florida during his childhood on his grandparents' farm where cattle and peacocks were raised. He carried this dream through years of city living in the corporate world until 1999, when he bought 3 acres in North Port and, thanks to a tip from his mother, learned about alpacas.
Sun King Alpacas was named in tribute to the Incan society that perfected the process of breeding alpacas for their fine fiber. They show at many Alpaca functions.
