Newark town lock is not far away from the castle.The lock was built in 1951 to allow commercial boats up to 250 tonnes to use the River Trent navigation .The lock chamber is 58 metres and(190.5ft) long and 9.25m(30.3ft) wide and 5.4m (6.1ft)deep. Each time the lock is used the equivalent of a30,000 Bath's so full of water is used.
