This stone plaque was a very unexpected and interesting find. It is on the south side of the Cass County Courthouse near the WWI Memorial.
The text reads:
United We Stand Divided We Fall
The Cass Co. Judges who suffered imprisionment by the U.S. Federal Courts rather than make a tax levy to pay fradulent co. and township Railroad Bonds. FE Johnston WP Barnes Sept 1 1883 to Jan 1 1884
WA Wray FM George ET Lane Mar 21 1892 to Jan 1 1893.
This inscription made by order of Cass Co Court Sept 9 1897 in compliance with a petition presented by JN Haddock.

History of Mark: The Cass County Court ordered the inscription placed on the building in 1897 to honor the judges that were jailed earlier in the decade.
